Mangalore - City of adventure



I would take this time to write about my place, Mangalore. Mangalore which is now renamed as Mangaluru is also a major port city of the Indian state Karnataka. The city was named after the Hindu deity Mangaladevi, the presiding deity of the Mangaladevi temple. It has been called in different names by different language people. In Kannada it is called Mangaluru, in Tulu it is called Kudla, in Konkani it is called Kodial, Maikala in Beary and the keralites call it as Mangalapuram. In all together, this city has six names. It is located on the coast of the Arabian sea and is most famous for Port, temples and beaches. The port here is one of the major Indian port that lies in the backwater of Netravathi and Gurupura river. This Mangalorean port handles 75% of India’s Coffee and cashew expert. The city has a Tropical climate and gets a good rainfall every year. It also has a very good education system and has produced a lot of good personalities. Not only in education, even in sports it has a major hand. Various rulers of Kadambas, Alupas, Vijayanagara empire, Keladi  nayaks and even the Portuguese has controlled this city. Mangalore ranks amongst the cleanest cities in India and is one of the most cosmopolitan non-metro cities of India. It was ranked 13th and second in Karnataka for most favourable destination for business.

You want to eat yummy fishes? You want to play or take a sunbathing on beaches? You want to go religious and visit temples? Or you want to watch the beauty of nature? Then pack your bags and visit this beautiful city – Mangalore. The beaches here are: Mangalore beach, Panambur beach, Tannirubhavi beach, someshwar beach and Surathkal beach. Wow! That’s a hell lot of beaches. It would be exciting to lie on the beach and watch the sunset or build sand castles. Definitely the kids will enjoy a lot but the fun is not restricted only to them. Even elders go to their childhood days and start having fun. But don’t forget when you go for a bath or a swim that Safety first and fun next.
Are you a religious person? Don’t worry, there are lot many temples and churches here. Well let me name some famous ones : Kudroli Sri Gokarnatheshwara temple, Durga Parameshwari temple, Kadri Manjunatha temple, Kateel temple, Mangaladevi temple, Thousand pillar jain temple, Shri Manjunath temple, Shri sharavu mahaganapathi temple, kudupu sri anantha padmanabha temple, Polali Rajeshwari temple, Shree vishnumurthy temple, Maha maya temple and many more. Too many temples! All temples have the beauty of structure of their own and will definitely give a peace of mind to all the devotees who visit with a hope that they will receive the solution to their problems.
 
There are even many churches her such as: St. Sebastian church, Our Lady of Mercy church, St. Lawrence church, St. Antony church, Milagres church and many more. The city is also filled with Catholics who speak in Konkani and is generally called Mangalore Konkani which is a lot different than Goa Konkani.

Other than these religious places, there is a beautiful island called the St. Mary’s island. It lies in the Malpe beach and is 20mins boat ride from the beach. A good place to party or hangout.The city also has lot many Parks like Kadri park, Pilikula animal park, Kadri hill park and Sammilan shetty’s butterfly park. There is a huge cricket stadium known as Mangala stadium and also huge play grounds such as Nehru maidana. There a lot of restaurants with awesome coastal food such as fish, squids, crabs, prawns, pork and many more things to surprise you. Once you have tasted them, you will never say no to the yummy food here.

The city is filled with wonderful people and wonderful places. I feel proud and happy to be in this city. Do visit this city to make your vacation a wonderful and memorable one to you. The city of adventure is waiting for your visit. Don’t worry about traveling, as it has an international airport, a sea port and national highways.
